Manufacturing

Manufacturing works with composite materials, plywood, and metals such as Aluminum 6061 to make the main rocket bodies. While other teams may manufacture smaller bespoke parts, we work on a macro scale to make the bulk of our rocket each year!

Manufacturing Subteam

What We Do

The Manufacturing Subteam turns designs into reality. With raw materials like carbon fiber, fiberglass, aluminum, and composite laminates, we fabricate the structural components that let the rocket fly. Whether it’s molding airframes, machining bulkheads, rolling tubes, or assembling composite plates, we focus on precision, reliability, and manufacturability.

Getting Involved

  1. Attend our manufacturing intro session
We host orientations at the start of each semester—come see the shop, meet team members, ask questions. Find the latest information on Crimson Connection.

  2. Reach out
Email atomicaggies@nmsu.edu expressing interest in manufacturing (mention your major, skills, and availability).
Also watch Crimson Connection for meetings or shop-op days posted by our team. You may also reach out to our current Manufacturing Lead, find their information on the Team Page.

  3. Shadow & train
You’ll shadow experienced members, attend training (e.g. composite layups, machining safety), and gradually take on parts of real builds.

  4. Participate in reviews
Manufacturing is deeply integrated; you’ll attend design reviews to give manufacturability feedback and learn cross-team dependencies.
